Industrial heritage heavy plate cantilevered hot rolled steel staircases, over 4 floors in newly refurbished office block with a gross weight of 35 tons of steel.
Truly spectacular achievement by Elite Metalcraft to deliver this technical and structurally demanding project within a tight programme.
Each fully assembled 7 ton section was craned into place and welded to existing steel structure.
All steel surfaces were chemically blackened with bees wax finish. All exposed welds to main sections of staircase and landing balustrades had to be flat and ground smooth to exacting standards. Handrails offset from main structure using hidden fixings. Tread anti slip nosings made from brass strips, fixed into laser cut slots in treads with a bronze patina finish.
Steel soffit clad in 2mm thick hot rolled mild steel also chemically blackened. Also each toilet pod and reception was clad in hot rolled chemically blackened steel with bees wax finish.
